Born and raised in Christchurch, and with little exposure to te reo growing up, Producer Ryan of the Mai Morning crew goes on a journey of discovery into his own whakapapa while deepening his understanding of te reo Māori through learning his Pepeha and reciting it in front of the Mai whānau. The objective was to document Ryan’s journey as he learnt te reo for the first time, proving that anyone can do it, no matter where you come from.

This was a joint Mai FM and Te Māngai Pāho production.

Nominated for Best Video at the NZ Radio Awards.
